American novelist and short story writer Professor Ron Carlson talks to fellow writer and creative writing teacher Professor Jem Poster about writing short stories. Carlson will use his own work to throw light on the process of finding and writing a short story.

Carlson, who teaches creative writing, has written several novels, including Truants, Five Skies and The Signal, and several volumes of short stories. He is a former director of the creative writing programme at Arizona State University and is currently teaching at the University of California.
