Welcome to a Very Short Introduction soapbox. A short talk lasting 15 minutes from an expert in the field. The talk is free and takes place in the Blackwell Marquee, next to the Sheldonian Theatre.

Professor Peter Higgins of the University of Essex takes an accessible and non-technical look at the rich variety of numbers including primes, imaginary and complex numbers, to infinity and beyond, and explains how they behave. He demonstrates how numbers are used in modern practical applications such as the encryption of confidential data.
