Writer Nick Hunt spent seven months walking through Holland, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey in the footsteps of the 18-year-old Patrick Leigh Fermor. The journey from the Hook of Holland to Constantinople made by the late Leigh Fermor in 1933 was remembered in a series of travel books, A Time of Gifts, Between the Woods and the Water, and The Broken Road. Hunt discovers what remains of the hospitality, kindness to strangers, freedom, wilderness, adventure and mysterious that Leigh Fermor encountered on his way.

Hunt studied English literature and creative writing at the University of East Anglia and has worked as a journalist, teacher, and storyteller.
