British-born Iranian Cyrus Massoudi describes how he went on a series of journeys to the land his parents fled 30 years ago to try to make sense of his roots. Massoudi’s journeys took him across Iran and deep into the country’s history. He looks at the mythological first kings of Iran, the Elamite kingdom, the Cyrus and Darius eras, the Islamic Arab and Mongol conquests and at Khomeini and Ahmadinejad. And he searches for a modern identity for Iran out of the struggle between young and old, reactionary and reformist and the computer and the Qur’an.

Massoudi is a writer, screenwriter and translator. After studying at Edinburgh University he spent three years living in Iran, travelling and researching his book.

Supported by Ian and Carol Sellars.
