Do leaders shape their people’s identity, or is it the other way around? And can it ever be said that we end up with the leaders we deserve? The BBC’s Jamie Coomarasamy and his panel explore the theme of changing identity in a globalising world, through the prism of power and the people. Guests will include the legendary Russian chess player turned pro-democracy campaigner Garry Kasparov, the Ethiopian writer and historian Prince Asfa-Wossen Asserate, professor of global economic governance Ngaire Woods, and novelist Xu Xi

Tickets for this live BBC World Service radio event are free but must be booked through the festival box office. This event will last an hour, with about 30 minutes of live broadcast. It forms part of a special two-hour live broadcast from the FT Weekend Oxford Literary Festival.

There will be a standby queue on the day for any unfilled seats at this event.
