Science writer Dr Jo Marchant looks at how science can explain and exploit the power of the mind over the body.

Marchant looks at the latest scientific research and asks whether those who turn to alternative medicine are on to something or are deluded; whether our thoughts, beliefs and emotions can influence physical health; and whether we can train our minds to heal our bodies. Marchant describes herself as an open-minded sceptic and provides an honest assessment of what works and what does not.

Marchant is an award-winning science journalist. She has a PhD in genetics and medical microbiology from St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical College in London, and an MSc in science communication from Imperial College London. She has worked as an editor at New Scientist and Nature and writes regularly for national newspapers and magazines. Her book, Decoding the Heavens, was shortlisted for the Royal Society Prize for Science Books.
