Bestselling author of the Geek Girl series Holly Smale talks to Radio 1 presenter and author Gemma Cairney about her supermodel character Harriet Manners, about being geek and chic and about what the future holds for her.

Smale spent two years as a teenage model but turned to writing after leaving university. She is the author of Geek Girl, Model Misfit, Picture Perfect and All That Glitters. Geek Girl was the bestselling young adult fiction title in the UK in 2013 and won the teen and young adult category of the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize. Cairney is Radio 1’s resident agony aunt on The Surgery and author of Open: A Toolkit for How Magic and Messed Up Life Can Be, which she introduces at another festival event.  She is artist in residence at The Southbank Centre and is on the committee for Women Of The World Festival.
