Oxford Martin School: Seminar RoomVenue
Children’s adventure writers Piers Torday and Moira Young talk about the magical journeys at the heart of their new books, There May be a Castle and The Road to Ever After. Expect to meet angels, knights, dragons, a sheep called Bar, and a dog called George Bailey along the way.
Torday’s bestselling first book for children, The Last Wild, was shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book Award and nominated for the CILIP Carnegie Medal as well as numerous other awards. His second book, The Dark Wild, won the Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize.
Young gained her equity card on the alternative comedy circuit in the mid-80s and became a tap-dancing chorus girl in London’s West End, appearing in High Society, directed by Richard Eyre, before returning to her home in Canada and retraining as an opera singer. She won the Costa Children’s Book Award with her debut children’s novel Blood Red Road.
Discussions will be chaired by Imogen Russell Williams, children’s books reviewer for The Guardian.
