Celebrated cellist Steven Isserlis talks to the actor, director and writer Simon Callow about his revisiting of Robert Schumann’s classic text, Advice to Young Musicians.

Isserlis will play some Bach and talk with Callow about Schumann’s importance and his lasting influence. Schumann was far ahead of his time, not least in his attitude towards children and young people. His practical, humorous and profound advice still has relevance today for musicians and music-lovers of all ages.

Isserlis is an internationally renowned cellist who plays regularly with the world’s leading orchestras and plays and writes for children. He is artistic director of the International Musicians’ Seminar at Prussia Cove, Cornwall. Callow is well-known for roles in films such as Four Weddings and a Funeral and is also a prolific writer of books including Being the Actor and acclaimed biographies of Charles Laughton and Orson Welles.
