Booker winner Ian McEwan confirmed for 2014
The 1998 Booker winner Ian McEwan, pictured left, appears at this year’s FT Weekend Oxford Literary Festival to talk about his life and work and receive the prestigious Bodley Medal.
He is joined in this year’s line-up by the winner of the 2006 Nobel Prize for Literature, the great Turkish novelist Orhan Pamuk, who gives this year’s Chancellor’s Lecture. Pamuk, who speaks at the invitation of the Chancellor of the University of Oxford, Lord Patten of Barnes, will also talk about his life and work.
Other major figures added to the programme in the last week include the arts broadcaster and novelist Melvyn Bragg, who talks about his latest novel, Grace and Mary; broadcaster, Britain’s best known gardener, and novelist Alan Titchmarsh, pictured right, who talks about his new novel, Bring Me Home; and actress and Indian food expert Madhur Jaffrey and former BBC India correspondent Mark Tully on The Magic of India.
All these events and almost 200 more are available to book through this website. A box office has also opened in Blackwell’s bookshop in Broad Street, Oxford. The opening times for this, and for telephone booking on 0870 343 1001, are Monday-Friday, 10.30am-4.30pm.
