Painter and poet Frieda Hughes reads some of the poems in her new collection Alternative Values, talks about their origins and illustrates them with slides of some of the paintings that also feature in the same book.

Hughes describes painting and poetry as the two driving forces of her life. She exhibits frequently and has used emotional and psychological elements of her poetry to accompany the images. Alternative Values is an illustrated collection of her most recent poems. It features 60 full-colour plates of abstract and figurative work recently shown at London’s Belgravia Gallery.

Hughes will also read from some of her other poetry collections. Her first collection, Wooroloo, was named after the hamlet she lived in in Western Australia during the 1990s. It received a Poetry Book Society Special Commendation.  Other collections are Stonepicker, Waxworks, Forty-Five, and the The Book of Mirrors
