Two Indian novelists, one well established and one new, discuss their books and writing. Professor Manil Suri was born in Bombay and now lives and works in the United States as professor of mathematics and affiliate professor of Asian studies at the University of Maryland. He is author of international bestseller The Death of Vishnu, The Age of Shiva and, most recently, The City of Devi. His fiction has won several awards and has been translated into 27 languages.

Oxford student Prajwal Parajuly became the youngest Indian to sign an international book contract when he recently put pen to paper on a five-figure deal with Quercus. Parajuly, a student on Oxford’s creative writing MSt course, is the youngest writer on Quercus’s books and publishes a collection of short stories, The Ghurka’s Daughter, in December 2012 and his first novel, The Land Where I Flee, in 2013. Parajuly grew up in north-eastern India, the son of an Indian father and Nepalese mother. His writing deals with the experiences of Nepalis in Nepal, India, Britain and the United States.
