Caroline Bicks talks about her first-of-its-kind exploration of Stephen King’s acclaimed early novels, which features groundbreaking archival research and interviews with King himself. 

After Caroline Bicks was named the University of Maine’s inaugural Stephen E. King Chair in Literature, she became the first scholar to be granted extended access by King to his private archives, a treasure trove of manuscripts that document the legendary writer’s creative process – most of them never before studied or published.

Part literary master class and part biography, Monsters in The Archives chronicles what Bicks found when she set out to unearth how King crafted some of his scariest, most significant moments. It is an unprecedented insight into King’s writing process and personal history – unlike anything ever published about the master storyteller before. 

Caroline Bicks is an internationally recognised Shakespeare scholar with a long list of publications on early modern drama, gender and the history of science. In 2017, she accepted an offer to become the inaugural Stephen E. King Chair in Literature at the University of Maine.
