Award-winning biologist and author Sean B Carroll explains how pioneering scientists sought the answers to how life works and why their discoveries matter for our health and the health of our planet.

Carroll says one of the most important discoveries about the natural world is that everything is regulated. There are rules governing the amount of every molecule in our body and the numbers of plants and animals in the wild. This understanding has led to some life-saving medicines, and Carroll says it is now time to apply these same Serengeti rules to heal our ailing planet.

Carroll is an award-winning scientist and writer. He is vice-president for science education at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, the Allan Wilson Professor of Molecular Biology and Genetics at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and author of Endless Forms Most Beautiful, Brave Genius, and Remarkable Creatures.

Here he talks to professor of biology Charles Godray.

Presented in association with Princeton University Press.
