Leading architectural historian Professor Dana Arnold gives a jargon-free explanation of how art is made, interpreted and displayed and offers fresh insight into ways of thinking about art from different periods and cultures.

Arnold ranges from cave paintings to contemporary multimedia work, taking the reader through all the major approaches to making and understanding art.

Arnold is professor of architectural history at the University of Southampton and director of the Centre for Studies in Architecture and Urbanism.  Her recent publications include Re-presenting the Metropolis and The Georgian Country House: Architecture, Landscape and Society.
