Writer and broadcaster Bidisha talks to journalist Suzie Feay about the extraordinary stories she uncovered during outreach work in London with those who had fled war, persecution, extreme poverty and civil unrest. They include those of the man who taught music at Tehran University and now works in a sandwich factory, the former teacher who was asked whether she could switch on a light, and the company manager who was hauled out by police in front of colleagues and imprisoned.

Bidisha is a writer and broadcaster specialising in international human rights and arts and culture. She has written two novels, a travelogue, Venetian Masters, and a work of reportage, Beyond the Wall: Writing a Path Through Palestine.
