Artist and ornithologist Katrina van Grouw introduces her lifetime’s work on bird anatomy, The Unfeathered Bird. Van Grouw spent 25 years completing the 385 stunning drawings of bird skeletons that make up this collection of 200 species, and there will be a rare chance to see some of the actual drawings and specimens that acted as models. Each drawing was made from an actual specimen and the drawings show the birds engaged in typical behaviour. The drawings are accompanied by text aimed at a general reader to explain how the birds’ anatomies relate to their lifestyle.

Van Grouw, an artist and graduate of the Royal College of Art, is a former curator of the ornithological collections at the Natural History Museum in London, a taxidermist, and an experienced bird bander. She is also author, as Katrina Cook, of Birds, a historical retrospective of bird art.
