Journalist, historian and writer Victor Sebestyen looks back at a crucial year of post-war history, 1946. He explains how the peace deals at the end of World War II not only shaped the second half of the 20th century but continue to shape our world today. In 1946 the Cold War began, Israel was conceived, Indian independence was all but confirmed and the Chinese communists gained the upper hand in their fight for power.

Sebestyen was born in Budapest and was a child when he left Hungary as a refugee with his family. He has worked for many British and American newspapers and is author of Twelve Days, an account of the 1956 Hungarian uprising, and Revolution, an account of the fall of the Soviet empire.
