Bestselling crime writer M C Beaton talks about her detective heroes Hamish Macbeth and Agatha Raisin and how their stories have been translated from novels to the screen, introducing film clips from the Hamish Macbeth and Agatha Raisin series to illustrate her points.

February 2015 sees the publication of the 30th book in the Hamish Macbeth series, Death of a Liar, and an Agatha Raisin mystery, Agatha Raisin and the Quiche of Death, was a highlight of the 2014 Christmas schedule on the Sky 1 television channel. Beaton’s books have sold 15 million copies worldwide and been translated into 15 languages. She is the number one borrowed adult author in UK libraries.

Beaton has written 30 Hamish Macbeth mysteries, 26 Agatha Raisin mysteries, four Edwardian mysteries and a number of Regency romances. The Hamish Macbeth television series ran for three series on the BBC between 1995 and 1997, starring Robert Carlyle as the local police officer. Here she talks to author and journalist Paul Blezard.
