Poet, biographer and critic Robert Crawford marks the 50th anniversary of the death of T S Eliot by tracing the life of the 20th-century’s most important poet from his childhood in St Louis to the publication of his most famous poem, The Waste Land.  Crawford draws on new interviews, archives and unpublished memoirs to portray a brilliant but shy American who defied his parents to cross the Atlantic and live as an immigrant in England. And he shows how deeply personal experiences lay behind the great poems he created.

Crawford is author of seven collections of poems – the latest of which is Testament – and professor of poetry at the University of St Andrews. He has previously written on T S Eliot and is also author of The Bard, a biography of Robert Burns.
