Former Bodley’s Librarian David Vaisey talks about some of the items that have captured his imagination from the many the library has gathered over the last four centuries in this illustrated talk. In his book, Bodleian Library Treasures, Vaisey has selected more than 100 treasures with a story to tell, from Jane Austen’s manuscript for The Watsons to a map of Narnia illustrated by C S Lewis, examples of the Magna Carta and the Gutenberg Bible.

Vaisey was on the staff of the Bodleian Library for 33 years, first in its Department of Western Manuscripts and then from 1986 to 1996 as its director.

Presented by the Bodleian Libraries.
