Zoologist, writer and broadcaster Jules Howard explains how life on Earth became that bit more colourful and bizarre with a sexual revolution 1,000 million years ago – when sex happened for the first time. Howard covers the ins and outs of animal reproduction from sperm wars to cuckoldry, hermaphrodites and virgin births, hips, breasts, birdsong and monogamy and true love. Howard explains how all of our ancestors have taken part in colourful and elaborate mating rituals in an unbroken chain that goes right back to the dawn of time.

Howard writes on zoology and wildlife conservation and is a regular in BBC Wildlife Magazine and on television and radio including the BBC’s The One Show, Nature, The Living World and BBC Breakfast. He also runs a social enterprise that has brought 100,000 young people closer to the natural world.
