It is over 40 years since the tiger came to tea, and two generations have grown up on this and other stories created by Judith Kerr, all recognised as children’s classics: no wonder that she is beloved by readers young and old. Born in Berlin, she was forced to flee Germany aged 9 as her father, a writer, was outspoken against Hitler. That story is told her in her semi-autobiographical children’s novel When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit. Now in her nineties, she is as lively as ever, and still creating wonderful children’s books. In this very special event, Kerr will share some of the memories that inspired When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit, and also give an insight into the unforgettable characters that star in her picture books.

Kerr’s story was recently told in a BBC documentary in Alan Yentob’s arts series, Imagine.
