Visit Duke Humfrey’s medieval library, where generations of famous scholars have studied through the ages and which is still in use today

Duke Humfrey’s Library was originally a library of manuscripts with a collection of scholastic and legal texts and a remarkable representation of the humanism of the Italian Renaissance. It was restored and brought back to magnificence by Thomas Bodley (1545 -1613).

This visit is organised by the Bodleian Libraries and lasts 30 minutes. There are lots of steps and stairs, and, we regret, no lift is available.

There are three tours a day at 10.30am, 1pm and 4.30pm.

Please go to the Bodleian Library’s ticket office, just inside the Great Gate on Catte Street approximately 5 minutes before your visit is due to start.

Not suitable for under 11s.
