Novelist and Bafta-winning screenwriter William Nicholson talks about Adventures in Modern Marriage, a tale of love and sex in middle age, and about his screenwriting career.

Adventures in Modern Marriage is set during a week leading up to the 2015 General Election and continues the story of characters in Nicholson’s earlier novel, The Secret Intensity of Everyday Life. It is a tale of male mid-life crisis, female sexual desire, death and the fear of it, and of bringing up children.

Nicholson won Baftas for his television plays, Shadowlands and Life Story. He was co-writer on the film, Gladiator, and his film-writing credits include Elizabeth: The Golden Age, Les Miserables and Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. Adventures in Modern Marriage is his seventh novel.
