Ticket priceExpert in medieval literature Professor Carolyne Larrington looks at the historical inspiration behind George R R Martin’s fantasy novels and the Game of Thrones television series based on them.
Larrington explains how Martin constructed his universe out of the Middle Ages. She looks at the novels and the television series and explores subjects such as sigils, giants, dragons and direwolves in medieval texts; ravens, old gods and the Weirwood in Norse myth; and a gothic, exotic orient in the eastern continent, Essos.
