Science writer and broadcaster Marcus Chown explains how the force that keeps our feet attached to the Earth also holds the key to our understanding of time and the origin of the universe.

Chown says that while gravity was the first force to be recognised, it is the least understood. It is the weakest force in our everyday world but the strongest force in the universe. Chown explains how new understanding of gravity promises to answer the biggest questions in science – what is space, what is time, what is the universe, and where did it all come from?

Chown is a writer and broadcaster whose books include What a Wonderful World, Quantum Theory Cannot Hurt You and We Need to Talk about Kelvin. He co-authored two sci-fi novels with John Gribbin and is cosmology consultant for New Scientist magazine.
