Astrophysicist Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell talks about astronomy and poetry and selects a few of her favourite poems with an astronomical theme. Burnell will ask members of the audience to volunteer to read the selected poems.

Burnell is a well-known astrophysicist who discovered the first radio pulsars whilst studying at university.  She is a former president of the Royal Astronomical Society and of the Institute of Physics. She was co-editor of a collection of poems, Dark Matter: Poems of Space, that contained specifically commissioned work on the theme of space as well as a selection chosen by the editors.

This is the inaugural Ada Lovelace Lecture presented by the Bodleian Libraries. Ada Lovelace was the daughter of Lord Byron and a mathematician and writer who is seen as an early pioneer of the computer. This annual lecture will be devoted to a scientific topic.
