Professor Jamie Davies uses cutting edge science to explain one of life’s deepest mysteries: how can a complex human body organize itself from a simple fertilized egg?  Why do we have two arms but one head? How come the left leg is the same size as the right? And why are the fingerprints of identical twins not identical? Davies argues that a convergence of ideas from embryology, genetics, physics, networks, and control theory is beginning to provide the real answers.

Davies is professor of experimental anatomy at the University of Edinburgh. He runs a laboratory that focus on how the organs of mammals construct themselves and how that knowledge can be used in medicine.
