Israeli historian and activist Professor Ilan Pappé exposes the true story behind the Israeli occupation of Palestine and offers hope for a future of peace and reconciliation.

Pappé has never been afraid to ruffle feathers in his home state. Here he puts the occupation into a wider historical context that stretches back to 1948. He challenges the conventional view that the 1967 war emerged out of the blue and forced Israel to occupy the territories. He uses recently declassified material to argue that legal and security measures were put in place to control the population and points to a harsh policy of oppression that passed without any substantial resistance for 20 years. Pappé will also talk about how Donald Trump’s relationship with Israel might affect potential peace negotiations.

Pappé is a professor of history at the University of Exeter and author of the bestselling The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine. He was founder and director of the Academic Institute for Peace in Givat Haviva, Israel, between 1992 and 2000 and was the chair of the Emil Tuma Institute for Palestine Studies in Haifa between 2000 and 2006.
