Author, publisher and journalist Barnaby Rogerson goes on a dazzling journey through the history of numbers and their significance. Stories range from the number of the beast 666 to the seven deadly sins, the 12 signs of the zodiac and the four suits in a deck of cards. Why did Genghis Khan build a city of 108 towers and how did Dante forge his Divine Comedy on the number 11? Rogerson explores the significance of numbers in mythic poetry and in the world’s many belief systems.

Rogerson runs Eland Publishing with his partner Rose Baring. It specialises in keeping classics of travel literature in print.
