Travel writer Jan Morris confirmed for 2014

Morris to receive festival fellowship

JanMorrisThe legendary travel writer Jan Morris is to speak about her life and work to poet and author Kevin Crossley-Holland at this year's FT Weekend Oxford Literary Festival. Morris, pictured left, a historian, travel writer and novelist best known for her Pax Britannica trilogy on the history of the British Empire and for her travel writing on cities, most notably Oxford, Venice, Trieste, Hong Kong and New York, will also receive the 2014 Honorary Fellowship of the FT Weekend Oxford Literary Festival. Jancis RobinsonOne of the world's most highly regarded wine writers, Jancis Robinson, pictured right, will give a talk about her life and work, followed by a wine-tasting focused on changes in contemporary wine production. His Dark Materials author Philip Pullman appears in a new-style event at which he will talk about his life and about some of his favourite music. Some of Pullman's favourite pieces will be performed during the event by John Lubbock's outstanding Orchestra of St John. Lovers of classical music will also have the opportunity to hear the great pianist Alfred Brendel speak about his life and career to the former director of the BBC Proms, Sir Nicholas Kenyon. Philip ArdaghSome anarchic fun is promised when Roald Dahl Funny Book prize winner Philip Ardagh, pictured left, is joined by Guardian columnist and author of Inside Charlie’s Chocolate Factory Lucy Mangan for Roald Dahl Mischief Mayhem and Music. There will also be a visit from one of the Matilda's from the hit West End musical. There are now around 220 events confirmed on the festival website.
