Joanna Moorhead

Journalist Joanna Moorhead gives an illustrated talk on the life and art of her cousin, the Surrealist artist Leonora Carrington, who befriended the likes of Max Ernst, Man Ray, Salvador Dali and Pablo Picasso, and carved a reputation as a leading woman artist.

Moorhead explains how Carrington left England, society, family and conventions behind to travel and mix with artists across Europe and America. She says Carrington connected herself closely with the places she lived and explains how these places echo through her work. Among the places are a Gothic mansion in Lancashire, a remote Cornish hideaway, Left Bank Paris, an art-filled farmhouse in the Ardèche, Spain, New York and Mexico.
