Fuchsia Dunlop

Enjoy a new annual festival dinner hosted by the Institute of Hospitality and celebrate the institute’s presentation of its first Annual Award for Excellence in Culinary Literature to the celebrated authority on Chinese cooking, Fuchsia Dunlop.

The dinner will be staged at New College, Oxford.  The programme begins with a reception with English sparkling wine provided by Swanaford Estate in the medieval cloisters of the college (weather permitting) that featured in the film Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire. A four-course dinner with fine wines follows in the magnificent 14th-century Great Hall, pictured below, the oldest and tallest in Oxford or Cambridge. All present at the dinner will receive a signed hardback copy of Dunlop’s latest acclaimed book Invitation to a Banquet: The Story of Chinese Food.

Dunlop was the first Westerner to train as a chef at the Sichuan Higher Institute of Cuisine. Her award-winning books include The Food of Sichuan, Shark’s Fin and Sichuan Pepper, Every Grain of Rice and Land of Fish and Rice, some of which have been published in translation in China. She talks about Invitation to a Banquet at a festival event on Monday.

Price includes drinks reception, four-course dinner with fine wines and a copy of the book. Dress code: black tie or suits.
