Foreign correspondent Oliver Moody looks at the nine Baltic countries and explains why the area is both critical to European security and increasingly a centre of political and military power.
Moody says Baltic countries are the most successful examples of reintegration of Europe’s old capitalist and communist blocs. The region boasts pioneering environmental initiatives, and economies such as Poland, Finland and Estonia are case studies in the mobilisation of social resources and the transformative power of technology. Moody says the West needs to take note of perspectives from the Baltic countries more than it ever did.
Moody has been Berlin bureau chief of The Times since 2018 and is a former science correspondent for the same newspaper.
Part of the festival’s Voices of Europe programme.
