Award-winning biographer, novelist and critic A N Wilson tells the story of German literary great Goethe and the work that dominated his life.
Wilson charts Goethe’s life from his youth as a wild literary prodigy to his later years as Germany’s most heroic romantic figure. And he focuses on the writer’s 60-year obsession with telling the story of Faust. Wilson says Faust is Goethe’s greatest work. It absorbed all the philosophical questions of its time and is the foundational myth of how we came to be modern.
Wilson is the author of many biographies and works of non-fiction including The Victorians and The Mystery of Charles Dickens. His novel, Winnie and Wolf, was longlisted for the Booker Prize.
