Historian and podcaster Violet Moller explores the world of 16th-century science where magic mixed with mathematics and all knowledge was worth pursuing.
Moller explains how Copernicus declared in 1543 that the Earth revolved around the sun, heralding a new age guided by observation, technology and logic. However, omens, elixirs and alchemy still abounded and the lines between the supernatural and the natural remained porous. Moller says the lines of science were not instantaneously born but developed over time.
‘A scintillating journey into a world where discoveries rip through doctrine like meteors. There is magic in these pages.’ Daisy Dunn, author of The Missing Thread
Moller is author of four previous books including The Map of Knowledge. She presents the Travels Through Time podcast, named one of the Guardian’s five best podcasts for the curious-minded.
