Bestselling authors Hesse Philips and A J West discuss the intricate relationships and survival stories in their compelling new novels, Lightborne and The Betrayal of Thomas True, set against the backdrop of Elizabethan and early Georgian London.
Both works delve into the complexities of love amidst danger and societal constraints. West’s The Betrayal of Thomas True immerses readers in the vibrant yet perilous world of molly houses, where hidden identities and forbidden love intertwine. West is also a BBC newsreader and reporter and author of The Spirit Engineer, winner of the Historical Writers’ Association Debut Crown Award. Philips’s Lightborne richly portrays Kit Marlowe, a celebrated playwright navigating the treacherous waters of paranoia and betrayal. Philips’s poetry and prose have been nominated for the Pushcart Prize and Best of the Net.
Discussions are chaired by Sophie Duncan, a scholar of historical literature and research fellow of Magdalen College, Oxford
