Poet Pele Cox is joined by three actors to perform Vincent and the Poets, a production about the artist, his letters and his love of poetry first staged by Cox when she was artist in residence at the Royal Academy of Arts.
The production was inspired by a 2010 exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts, The Real Van Gogh, the Artist and His Letters. It portrays the sadness and the soul of the man by drawing on his considerable love of poetry and on his letters. The performance was repeated at Courtauld Institute for a self portraits exhibition and is now being staged for a third time at the festival.
Cox is a graduate of the masters in creative writing course at the University of East Anglia where she was tutored by Andrew Motion. She has been poet in residence at Tate Modern and the Royal Academy of Arts and writer in residence at the British School Rome and Keats-Shelley House in Rome. She has created a number of poetry and art-based performances for exhibitions at the Royal Academy including for Van Gogh and Poetry, Degas and The Dance and Hockney and His Poetic Imagination.
