BBC Countryfile and Sky News presenter Tom Heap argues that we need to urgently change our relationship with the land and start to use it more cleverly to give both humanity and nature space to thrive.
Heap says we need land to meet our growing needs for food, renewable energy, carbon storage and housing. We have traditionally stolen it from nature but the mounting toll of extinction and pollution is punishing us. Heap asks how we can get more from the same or, preferably, less land. He explains how he toured the British countryside to meet farmers, scientists, conservationists and warehouse managers trying to solve the problem.
Heap has been reporting on science and the environment for more than 25 years. He is a regular presenter on the BBC’s Countryfile and the main presenter on Sky’s The Climate Show. He was creator and presenter of BBC radio’s flagship climate change podcast 39 Ways to Save the Planet.
