Hope not Hate researcher Joe Mulhall and journalist and broadcaster Paul Mason discuss the rise of fascism and what needs to be done to halt it.

The far right is on the rise across the globe. Authoritarian populism is being normalised in countries such as India, Brazil, and the United States, where Trump supporters recently stormed the Capitol. What does modern fascism look like, who are its supporters and what do they believe, and how do we stop them?

Mulhall is senior researcher at the UK’s largest anti-fascist and anti-racist movement Hope Not Hate and has investigated far right groups in the US and Europe. In Drums In the Distance: Journeys Into the Global Far Right, Mulhall argues that far right supporters are normal people who hold dangerous views but they can be defeated by normal people.

Mason is a former economics editor of BBC Newsnight and Channel 4 News. In How to Stop Fascism: History, Ideology, Resistance, he argues that fascism is back and that the left and centre need to unite in a militant defence of democracy.
