One of Britain’s best-loved writers for children Michael Morpurgo talks about his charity Farms for City Children and the stories inspired by the farm, the animals and the children who visit.
Morpurgo often calls Farms for City Children, the charity he founded with his wife Clare over 40 years ago, his best story ever. His latest series of farm stories are inspired by the farms. Jemima the Pig and the 127 Acorns, the first of these books and a World Book Day 2022 book, is a charming and heart-warming tale of a boy who befriends Jemima the undisputed queen of the farm and smuggles acorns in his pockets to feed her. Morpurgo will talk about the part that the farms have played in his life and stories and how the landscape and the animals of the countryside can leave an impression on a child’s heart forever.
Morpurgo’s books have sold more than 35 million copies. He has written more than 150 books, has served as Children’s Laureate, and has won many prizes, including the Smarties Prize, the Writers Guild Award, the Whitbread Award, the Blue Peter Book Award and the Eleanor Farjeon Lifetime Achievement Award.
