One of the world’s leading experts on chemical and biological counter-terrorism Hamish de Bretton-Gordon talks about his service in danger zones around the world and his discovery that he had a heart condition called Sudden Death Syndrome.
De Bretton-Gordon describes how he unearthed evidence of multiple chemical attacks in Syria despite being in great personal danger and how he advised the UK government in the wake of the 2018 Novichok poisoning in Salisbury. He says the discovery that Sudden Death Syndrome could kill him at any time made him fight harder to make his life count.
De Bretton-Gordon is co-founder with Professor David Nott of Doctors under Fire, which helps civilians threatened by chemical warfare, and the Army’s foremost chemical weapons expert. He is a visiting fellow at Magdalene College Cambridge.
