Music and theatre producers and writers Rui da Silva and Tobi Kyerematang discuss the importance of Black British culture and its impact on the UK cultural landscape under the chairmanship of Magdalene Abrah, editor of the first ever book series on Black British culture.
The A Quick Ting On series, published by Jacaranda, was developed and commissioned by Abraha. Titles include A Quick Ting On: Plantain by Da Silva and A Quick Ting On: Theatre Sh*t by Kyeremateng. Other titles in the ongoing series include ones on black British businesses, Grime, Afrobeats, and the Black British Power movement. The series aims to celebrate, pay homage to, and explore Black British culture.
Da Silva is a music producer exploring and fusing various musical styles from Hip Hop and Soul to Jungle and African Folk. He is also an illustrator, youth worker and founder of AfroEats, a magazine celebrating Afro-Caribbean home-cooks in London. Kyerematang is a multi-award-winning multidisciplinary producer and writer from South London, working across film, theatre, community-centred programmes and live public events. Abraha is a writer, curator, and award-winning publisher. She appeared on The Bookseller’s Rising Star list 2019.
