Writer, broadcaster and granddaughter of Winston Churchill Emma Soames introduces the wartime diaries of her mother Mary Churchill.
Mary was the youngest daughter of Winston and Clementine Churchill, and most of her diaries have never been published before. She was 17 at the outbreak of war. The diaries provide a unique view into some of the biggest events of the war, an insight into her relationship with her father, and a snapshot of daily life for the Churchills – from the air raid sirens to cocktail parties with presidents and royals. They also capture what it was like to be a young woman coming of age in wartime Britain.
Soames has been editor of the Literary Review, Tatler, ES Magazine, the Telegraph magazine and Saga.
