Expert in globalisation and development Professor Ian Goldin argues that the COVID-19 pandemic can create opportunities for change in the same way the Second World War led to the ideas behind the Beveridge Report.
The Beveridge Report laid the foundations for the welfare state and other beneficial social and economic reforms. Goldin looks at globalisation, the future of jobs, income inequality, geopolitics, the climate crisis, and the modern city. He says there is an optimistic, greener, and fairer future that we have the power to create.
Goldin is a professor of globalisation and development at the University of Oxford and founding director of the Oxford Martin School. He is a former vice-president of the World Bank and a former economic advisor to President Nelson Mandela.
