Sita Brahmachari talks about her writing and about her latest children’s book, When Shadows Fall.
Brahmachari’s debut Artichoke Hearts won the Waterstones Book Prize and, since then, her ambitious and passionate novels have been recognised by national and international awards, translated into many different languages and even endorsed by Amnesty International. Her themes are home and belonging, family and family histories, and the big issues of our time, and she draws on her own life experiences as well as those of people she meets as writer in residence at Islington Centre for Refugees and Migrants. Her latest book, When Shadows Fall, intersperses her prose with free verse for moments of drama and reflection.
Brahmachari’s many projects and writing commissions have been produced in theatres, universities, schools and community groups throughout Britain and America. Here she talks to Damian Kelleher, a writer and journalist specialising in children’s books.
