Famed explorer Colonel John Blashford-Snell tells of some of the hair-raising and hilarious exploits from his lifetime of adventure and exploration.
Blashford-Snell has been exploring some of the remotest parts of the planet for more than 60 years and is still exploring today in his eighties. He tells of the more than 100 expeditions he has led in pursuit of archaeological, anthropological, botanical, biological and zoological objectives. They include his pioneering trip down the Blue Nile on behalf of Haile Selassie, a quest to find a giant pachyderm in the forests of West Nepal and delivering a grand piano to a remote tribe in Guyana. Along the way there are tales of meeting dangerous animals, navigating rapid-filled rivers and encountering bandits.
‘Without doubt JBS, as many know him, is one of the world’s most eminent explorers’ Sir Ranulph Fiennes
Blashford-Snell is a former Royal Engineer. He went on to lead more than 100 expeditions after being selected to lead the first descent of the Blue Nile in 1968. His innovation in negotiating white water in an inflatable raft has since become a global sport. He has won many honours both for his expeditions and for his work to encourage young people to explore the world.
