FT Weekend Lecture. Brexit: Where does Britain go Next?

Michael Heseltine Interviewed by Lionel Barber

6:30pm

1 hour

Sheldonian Theatre

Lord Michael Heseltine considers the state of Brexit negotiations and what next for Britain.

With Parliament in deadlock; an electorate divided; speculation about a snap general election – or even a second referendum on Britain’s membership of the EU, it seems impossible to predict the prospects for Brexit on the day of this event, let alone for the future. British politics has rarely witnessed such turmoil. Whatever the outcome of the current crisis, it is sure to have lasting consequences for our politics, society and, perhaps, even the union itself.

Heseltine, former deputy prime minister, prominent remainer, talks to Lionel Barber, editor of the Financial Times, about the impact of Brexit, the UK’s relations with Europe and what he thinks needs to happen in order for Britain to find a way out of its crisis, drawing on his experience of six decades at the centre of British politics, as an MP, cabinet minister and member of the House of Lords.
