Chris Patten in conversation with Tom Fletcher
Monday, 18 March 2024
6:00pm
1 hour
Sheldonian Theatre
£8 - £20
In what will be his last appearance at the Oxford Literary Festival before his retirement as Chancellor of Oxford University, Chris Patten talks to the Principal of Hertford College, Tom Fletcher, about some of the problems facing a world in turmoil.
The paperback version of Patten’s Hong Kong Diaries is being published in late February and the conversation will begin with them. But there will be a much broader discussion of the geo-political challenges to the world. Patten was the European Commissioner for External Affairs after leaving Hong Kong.
Fletcher was an adviser to three Prime Ministers and was the youngest senior ambassador in the Foreign Office when he was appointed to the post in Lebanon. He has a wide and detailed expertise about the Middle East and about foreign policy issues. He has written two works of non-fiction, The Naked Diplomat: Power and Statecraft in the Digital Age and Ten Survival Skills for a World in Flux. He has also written two novels, The Ambassador and his latest, The Assassin.
Event supported by Pank Koria, chief executive of Project People Ltd.
